I am currently seeking a position as a school counselor within your district. In addition to my Bachelor of Psychology and Master of Counselor Education, I have three years of experience working as a middle school counselor. I am also qualified as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).
I have been a middle school counselor in Prince William County Public Schools for the past three years, working in two different middle schools. Within this experience I have received very diverse experiences. I have provided individual and group counseling sessions to students ages 11-14 regarding academic, career and personal/ social concerns. I have also taught a multitude of classroom guidance lessons focusing on topics such as: online safety, career development, sexual harassment, healthy relationships, and academic transitions. I have also built strong relationships with my students and various other staff members through various other programs I have implemented within both of the middle schools I’ve spent time in. I have co facilitated a Mindfulness Program bringing mindfulness to our school through different avenues, and a “Benton Buddies” and “Cougar to Cub” mentoring programs promoting inclusion and support within our school for minority groups. I believe these programs have contributed to positive relationships within our schools as well as decreased conflict among peers.
These different facets of my experiences have helped me to provide a comprehensive school counseling program to empower all students in order to enhance their academic, career, personal and social strengths and weaknesses. I hope to continue promoting diversity, providing equitable opportunities and encouraging resiliency in my future students so that they may become successful and contributing citizens to our society.
